Concha Surgery
The lower nasal turbinates, which have a very important place in the functions of the nose, should never be completely cut and removed. Following such surgeries, which were frequently performed in the past, nasal functions deteriorate, and it is extremely difficult, sometimes even impossible, to resolve complaints such as dryness, crusting, recurrent infections and burning sensation in the nose, as well as negative results in respiratory physiology. For this reason, it is necessary to avoid excessive reduction and to prefer techniques that do not harm the mucous membrane of the nasal concha, during the procedures to reduce the lower concha.
The most applied methods to shrink the lower nasal concha; It is the reduction of the submucosal tissue volume with radiofrequency without damaging the mucosa, and the reduction of the soft tissue and bone tissue under the mucosa by shaving in cases where there is growth in the bone part of the meat (endoscopic reduction).
As a structural variation, air cells can be found in the middle concha (concha bullosa). The growth of this air cell during development can cause both nasal congestion and recurrent sinusitis. Concha bullosa is opened with endoscopic sinus surgery.
