The scars of people with yellow and white skin color heal better. This situation is slightly less in people with dark and black skin. Those with this complexion have a lower rate of scar healing. Rhinoplasty operations are generally performed from invisible areas. Surgery is performed with a 0.5 cm transverse incision on the columella, which is the tissue in the middle of the nostrils, and an incision covering 1/2 of the hole circularly in the inner parts of the nostrils.

The scars inside the nostrils are never obvious. The scar on the columella is very small and cannot be seen by looking from the opposite side. This scar changes color within weeks and becomes vague and does not disturb the patient.

Smoking after rhinoplasty negatively affects recovery. Since smoking disrupts the structure of small capillaries, it affects the microcirculation of sensitive organs and delays healing.

Rhinoplasty surgery can be performed at the age of 16-17 in women and at the age of 17-18 in men, depending on the rate of development.

With rhinoplasty, septoplasty (correction of intranasal cartilage and bone curvature), sinus surgery, other aesthetic procedures that can be performed on the face (eyelid surgery, jaw surgery, filling applications, etc.) can be performed.

With rhinoplasty, septum surgery can be performed for the curvature of the bone and cartilage in the nose, which we call breathing surgery. You can both get rid of nasal congestion and change the shape of your nose aesthetically at once.

• The plaster on the nose will remain for 5 to 7 days. It should not get wet. Being in extremely hot or steamy places may cause this plaster to loosen or come off by sweating.

• In the first 48 to 72 hours, cold applications (10 to 15 minutes per hour) should be applied to the eyes intermittently.

• Physical activity should be avoided as much as possible for 5 days after the surgery and rest should be done with the head elevated.

• Excessive facial expressions and laughing should be avoided for a week.

• If open technique surgery has been performed, the stitches at the tip of the nose will be removed by the doctor in 7 to 10 days, or when dissolving stitches are used, they will not need to be removed.

• There may be swelling under the eyes and on the face after nose surgery. This swelling may be less on the first day, it usually occurs in 2 days and reaches its maximum level in 3 to 4 days. These swellings and color changes will go away completely within 1 to 2 weeks.

• After the nose is opened, the nasal skin can be gently cleaned with liquid soap or special lotions. Put on make-up after bandage removal. It is appropriate not to wear turtleneck sweater or tight-necked clothes, which increase the risk of blows to the nose, for 3 weeks following the surgery.

• The nose should not be touched harshly for 3 weeks, and activities that may cause a blow to the nose should be avoided for the first 6 weeks.

• It is recommended not to use glasses for 6 weeks, and to use light-framed glasses in the following period.

• For 6 months following the operation, it is necessary to protect the nose skin from sunlight to prevent it from getting burned.

There is no harm in walking after rhinoplasty surgery. Even on the third day of the surgery, you can take short walks without being exposed to direct sunlight and protecting yourself. Light-paced walks help to remove edema from the body more quickly during the recovery period. But for fast-paced walks, it would be more appropriate to wait 6-8 weeks. You can start light jogging and swimming after 30 days. For activities such as yoga, gymnastics, you need to wait at least 2 months. The important thing here is that you need to protect your nose against impacts.

Since the nose is still soft after rhinoplasty, the pressure of the weight of the glasses on the healing nasal bones may deform the nose shape, so the nose must be protected from pressure until the healing is completed. Since the nasal bones have not fully healed yet, people should not wear glasses for at least two months to avoid the risk of causing any problems. Using contact lenses can be an alternative to glasses until the recovery process is complete after rhinoplasty. Some patients prefer to use bridgeless glasses, while others prefer to use a device that attaches directly to the glasses and allows the glasses to rest on the cheeks instead of the bridge of the nose. The third option that people can consider in the use of glasses after rhinoplasty is to tape their glasses to their foreheads.

Take a shower the day before the surgery and wash your face with an antibacterial soap. Do not wear make-up and nail polish while coming to the surgery. Your psychology on the day of surgery is very important. Our patients who are not stressed get through this process very easily. The patient who sleeps comfortably wakes up comfortably. You should stop eating and drinking the night before the surgery. Your surgery will be performed on an empty stomach and under general anesthesia. On the first day, choose a companion who makes you comfortable.

Do not use the following products 1 month before your surgery date: fish oil, flaxseed, products containing omega 3, ginseng, garlic, ginger, vitamin E. There is no problem with other vitamins (A, B, C, D). Apart from that, mixed herbal teas, legumes, broccoli, milk etc. Gas-producing foods such as gas should not be consumed excessively. To prevent and reduce edema and swelling, it is necessary to stay away from mineral water with high sodium and foods with high salt content such as pickles. Avoid blue, red, and purple vegetables and fruits. Do not use cigarettes and alcohol.

I recommend my patients to eat cold, soft, light foods for the first 24-48 hours after rhinoplasty. It should be kept in mind that hot liquids, spicy foods, high salt diet will cause more bruising and swelling tendency due to dilation of blood vessels. It is necessary to choose soft foods that need less chewing. I recommend starting with soft foods such as soft fruits such as peaches and strawberries, fruit smoothies, fruit purees, yogurt, mashed potatoes, non-hot soups, porridge, oatmeal. Avoid excessive fluid intake, do not smoke. It is appropriate to stay away from extremely hot and cold foods and alcohol. Cut down on caffeine. In order not to be constipated, foods containing plenty of fiber, vegetables, oatmeal, and bread containing whole grains can be preferred.

After rhinoplasty, antibiotics, and other drugs that you need to use will be prescribed by me. Do not use any medicine without consulting your doctor. After the silicone leaves are removed, squeeze the ocean water (Sterimar) and the drugs that increase intranasal humidification (Nasal moisture drops) into your nose 3-4 times a day to prevent crusting and drying in the nose and to accelerate the healing. Squeeze the Iliadin nasal spray 3 times a day in two sprays and leave this spray for the 5th day. Apply the anti-bruise cream (arnica) under the eyes twice a day. Apply antibiotic ointment (terramycin) to the seam at the tip of the nose as a strip twice a day. After the surgery, apply sunscreen creams with SPF 30 for 2-3 months under the eyes and on your nose every day after you get up.

Herbal products such as aspirin, blood thinners, vitamins, nutritional supplements, homeopathic substances, weight loss drugs and green tea used before the operation can cause serious bleeding problems and drug interactions during and after the operation; Such products should not be used during the one-month operation period, 15 days before and 15 days after the operation.Inform your doctor about medications such as blood pressure, diabetes, heart, or thyroid medications that must be used regularly.

In addition to using these drugs regularly in the pre-operative period, you should also bring them to the hospital with you, as you may need to take these drugs in the same way on the morning of the surgery and the next day.Since birth control pills increase the risk of clot formation in the legs, they should not be used 4 weeks before the operation in the pre-operative period. Especially those who are overweight, smoke, have a history of clot formation in their legs, have been treated for cancer, and will undergo an operation that will take more than 2 hours should pay attention to this issue.

The relationship between the patient and us should be honest and open. Most of the time, dissatisfaction is swelling at the tip of the nose and edema on the back of the nose during the recovery period. This appearance often improves over time. No physician wants his patient to be unhappy in this surgery he performs for aesthetic purposes. If the patient is still unhappy, corrections can be made either in the office or by surgery. In such cases, the physician does not charge a fee from the patient because the satisfaction and happiness of our patients is our main priority.

After rhinoplasty, the nose takes its final shape between 6 months and 1 year, sometimes even longer. Because we all have different wound healing processes. These periods will be longer in those with thick nasal skin and those who have had nasal surgery before. In fair-skinned people and those with normal nasal skin thickness, the nose will be settled in one year.

Nasal tip stiffness is a condition caused by extra cartilage grafts and sutures placed to strengthen the nasal tip cartilages during rhinoplasty. Although there may be some relaxation over the years, there will be no more relaxation after the relaxation that will be up to 6-12 months.

There are risks in rhinoplasty, as in any surgery. One of the risks is bleeding. In all patients, blood and discharge may come from the nose for a few days after the surgery. Bleeding requiring intervention is rare. Another risk of surgery is excessive scar tissue formation. If it is done with an open technique, scar tissue may develop at the tip of the surgical nose. The patient’s sense of smell may be temporarily or permanently lost. Stiffness at the tip of the nose, numbness, crusting in the nose may occur.

Rhinoplasty can be performed in any season. However, since it is necessary to protect the skin from the sun’s rays, the most suitable seasons will be winter and spring months.

This period is 15 days, but people who receive training can return to their work and education life after 7 days. In case of returning early, it is necessary to protect the nose area from all kinds of impacts, to avoid heavy and sudden movements, lifting loads, in short, all tiring activities.

It is not obligatory to put a splint in every surgery. However, I often prefer to put a splint made of silicone leaves in every case, as it provides bleeding control and supports the structures for the nose. Silicone leaves are mostly 3-4. day in the office environment. Removing splints is not as painful and difficult as it seems.

There is usually some pain on the first night. Since you spend this time in the hospital, this pain is not felt with both ice application and painkillers.

In rhinoplasty, bruises and swelling occur around the eyes. Thanks to the ice compress applied to the eye area and some drugs used during the surgery, these bruises occur as little as possible. We see these bruises a little more in smokers. The healing process after the bruises occur varies from person to person. Bruise removal creams, intermittent ice application after surgery help the bruises disappear faster.

The nose structure of people varies. The type of surgery to be performed and the difficulty of the surgery are important criteria in determining the price. The hospital and doctor chosen; the materials used are among the factors that affect the price.

The ideal nose tip should be flexible and strong enough to withstand gravity. If the nasal tip is not supported, the nasal tip may fall over time in patients who have weak post-operative cartilage structure or whose skin is thick and weigh more. When we support the tip of the nose, sometimes patients are disturbed by the stiffness at the tip of the nose. The nose tip, which is well planned and supported before the surgery, will not fall.

In some cases, part of the cost of your rhinoplasty operation may be covered by your health insurance. This usually happens when the patient has a bent nasal pole, in nasal valve surgery, or when the operation involves a patient’s previous injury or injury. In such cases, the breathing-related part of the restructuring of the nose may be covered by the patient’s health insurance. If the operation is considered purely for aesthetic reasons, it is not covered by health insurance and is entirely the patient’s responsibility. This should be discussed at the first examination so that they know from the outset how much of the cost will be covered by the insurance.

There may be bleeding from the nose for a few days during rhinoplasty. Most of the time, silicone splints are used to prevent this risk. Bleeding requiring major intervention is very rare. Discontinuation of aspirin-like drugs before surgery is important to prevent bleeding.

If the parents are allergic, the probability of allergic rhinitis in the child increases. However, it is not enough to define allergy only for hereditary reasons. Although there is a predisposition, environmental factors determine the emergence of allergy.

In patients with history compatible with allergy, the diagnosis is made with the skin test, which we call prick test, or the specific IgE test in the blood.

The nose and lungs are sister organs that share the same airway. If the nose cannot perform its functions, the lung is affected. If nasal allergy is not treated, progression to asthma can be seen over time.

Pollens are the most common allergens causing allergic rhinitis.

30% of allergic rhinitis patients have allergic asthma or bronchial hyperactivity. Sometimes it can be associated with other allergic diseases such as urticaria.

During the pollen season, one should not stay in the open air for a long time and should not go on a picnic. Houses should be ventilated in the evening hours. If possible, take a shower at night before going to bed. For house dust mites and molds, the humidity rate in the houses should be kept below 50%.

Asthma, sinusitis, otitis media, food allergies, conjunctivitis, sleep apnea due to nasal congestion, jaw and tooth development disorders can be seen in children.

Vaccine therapy is the only treatment method that can stop the course of the disease in allergic rhinitis.

Septoplasty surgery can be performed with two techniques, which we call closed or open. In the closed technique, which is mostly applied, there is no incision from the outside. In open technique septoplasty surgery, which is more rarely performed with an incision on the tip of the nose, external or internal support grafts are placed to open the nasal obstruction.

Since the nasal bones are not touched in septoplasty surgery, bruising and swelling do not occur on the face. However, swelling may occur at the tip of the nose in the septum surgery performed with the open technique, that is, by making an incision on the tip of the nose.

Silicone pads are used in septoplasty surgery to prevent bleeding and to support the internal structures. Since there is an opening in the middle of these splints, the patient can breathe through his nose despite the splints.

Since the nasal bones are not touched in this surgery, external splints or plaster are not used in this surgery.

In closed septoplasty, the shape of the nose does not change; In open septoplasty, the tip of the nose can be lifted because it will be brought to the midline with surgery.
